Joe Biden comes out swinging
The Jan 6 insurrection was a dark chapter of American history – a strong reminder of how frail our democracy actually is – when an outgoing president incited a crowd to terrorize both Houses of Congress in the hope they would overturn an election – the will of the people as well as a majority of states.
They failed, but recent evidence suggests that things were planned more thoroughly than we ever believed, and the same guy who incited the violence is running for president once again, which may lead people to think that already that fateful day is disappearing from the general public’s consciousness.
However, as we come to the three-year anniversary, President Biden is kicking off his 2024 re-election campaign with a speech in Valley Forge, PA, addressing the events of Jan 6. In doing so, President Biden is tying his presidential bid as well as Donald Trump directly to the events of Jan 6: He’s running to save democracy from the guy who nearly destroyed it, and taking this show on the road to South Carolina on Jan 8, ahead of the first Democratic primary.
In doing so, it won’t just be difficult for the former guy to go after Biden without mentioning Jan 6, it’ll be true for the media as well, linking the two in voters’ minds, who are just now starting to pay attention to the political landscape. It’s also a clear reminder for why we need to support President Biden and get new voters registered ahead of Election Day, so we can get him re-elected on Nov 5.
