Jack Smith’s criminal case against Donald Trump is more “sprawling” than previously thought

At this point we’re just a U.S. Court of Appeals ruling and a Supreme Court rejection away from Donald Trump’s federal criminal trial starting on time in Washington DC. Yet even though we’re this deep into the process, we still haven’t seen all of the evidence in the case. Far from it. But that could soon start to change.

Prosecutors, especially federal prosecutors, often like to play their cards close to the vest. They don’t want to publicly advertise their witness list or evidence list in advance, because they don’t want to risk things getting tainted before the trial begins.

But as we get closer to the start of the trial, people not named “Jack Smith” appear to be doing more talking about what all they’ve seen Jack Smith amassing in the case. CBS reporter Robert Costa now says that the case is more “sprawling” than previously known, and that it includes things like diary entries from people who worked in the Trump Oval Office.

Keep in mind that although a protective order prevents him from publicly discussing it, Trump has already been informed of much of the evidence against him through the standard discovery process. In other words, Trump has a good sense of just how overwhelming Jack Smith’s case is against him. It could explain why Trump is in such a foul mood, and why Trump’s Christmas message yesterday consisted of “ROT IN HELL.”
