This is just ugly for RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel
The Democratic Party has overperformed in the 2022 and 2023 elections, and the various special elections that have come along, so it’s fair to conclude that DNC Chair Jaime Harrison is doing a strong job. But on the other side of the fence, things just keep getting uglier for RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel.
The Republican Party keeps underperforming in election after election, yet McDaniel is still on the job. There have been endless calls for her ouster, but it appears that Donald Trump doesn’t want her replaced – perhaps because she’s made more of a focus on keeping him happy than on doing what’s best for the party.
In any case, Trump flunky Steve Bannon is now trying to get rid of Ronna McDaniel by calling for her to replaced with – get this – Donald Trump Jr. No really, Bannon wants the deeply troubled Donald Trump Jr. to become the new RNC Chair.
This would, obviously, be a calamitous disaster. But Bannon is clearly trying to get through to Donald Trump about the need to replace McDaniel by suggesting that Trump’s own son should take her place.
If Ronna McDaniel were winning election cycles, she’d be immune to any talk about replacing her as RNC Chair. But she and her party just keep losing. In that sense, one can only hope that the Republicans keep her around forever.
