Score one for Joe Biden
Donald Trump is a failed, twice-impeached “president.” Basically, he is a joke. What’s he doing now? Lying about it. At his Saturday rally, he claimed that his four years as president were “the greatest years” of our lives. Most horrible four years of our lives is more accurate. After he posted it on social media, others weighed in. Norman Ornstein, a legal scholar, wrote: “400,000 corpses after you killed them unnecessarily with your Covid malpractice would like a word.” Investigative journalist Victoria Brownworth is more accurate with the count: “Trump tanked the economy, deliberately mishandled a global pandemic (from which he almost died), killing over 1M Americans, he weaponized the DOJ during racial unrest due to the killings of Black Americans by police, and tried to overthrow the govt.”
He was impeached for blackmailing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He was impeached again for trying to overthrow the government by causing the worst act of terrorism on American soil since the Oklahoma City bombing. No, he did not make our lives better; he made everything worse with his lies and incompetence, and he brought racism back to the forefront. The president who has tried to make our lives better is now being investigated for impeachment by bitter, crazy Republicans, even though he has accomplished great things in the face of the disaster left by Donald Trump.
President Joe Biden entered office with the intent to give us some relief from Trump’s four disastrous years in office. He passed the American Rescue Plan Act, which gave immediate relief to many. This legislation extended unemployment benefits, made direct stimulus payments, gave support to local and state governments, and funded vaccine distribution. Biden next enacted the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, an act that is still providing benefits to the country in the form of the lowest unemployment rate in decades (currently at 3.7%) and consistently creating jobs. President Biden also passed the Education and Workforce Development, increased support for small businesses, expanded the child tax credit, invested in clean energy initiatives, advocated for a higher minimum wage, put worker protections in place, and worked to rebuild international alliances that Trump tried to destroy. And these are only his “top ten.” He has done so much more, such as finding a way to forgive student loans despite Republicans and SCOTUS. The economy is doing well under his leadership, and it is obvious that he cares about the wellbeing of all, unlike the man who quotes Putin and Orban and who is supported by ignorant Republicans like Lindsey Grahm who downplays Trump’s Nazi-style, authoritarian rhetoric. We don’t need any of this nonsense in the U.S.
We need leaders who are going to put us first. Not leaders who only care about what they want and what’s best for their rich friends and who want to run our lives with no input from us. Not leaders who commit crimes and lie in a feeble attempt to cover them. And certainly not any leaders who support impeaching a good president who has done nothing wrong. That’s not who we are; that’s not who we will ever be.
