Fani Willis calls Donald Trump’s bluff

Dear Palmer Report readers,

We all understand what a dark era we're heading into. Journalists will be prosecuted. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Advertising networks can't be counted on. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight, because someone has to.

In that regard we're looking to start funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens or how dark things get. We've launched a reader supported fund, and we've already raised $2097 and counting. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can contribute here. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Bill Palmer

Donald Trump’s big argument these days is that the criminal cases against him are “election interference” because he’s going to be running for President in 2024. In reality the only reason he’s (pretending to be) running for President in 2024 is because of the criminal cases against him.

But while Trump won’t get anywhere in the legal system by arguing this, he’s nonetheless arguing it. He’s insisting that his trials be pushed until after the 2024 election. That’ll never happen. But Fulton County DA Fani Willis has an appropriate response.

Fani Willis says that if Donald Trump doesn’t like his Fulton County criminal trial being so close to the election, she’s more than happy to hold the trial sooner. She’s essentially trying to bait him into requesting a speedy trial. Even if that doesn’t work, Willis is neutering Trump’s ability to go into court and argue that the trial is poorly timed. She’ll simply point out that she offered to hold it sooner, and he failed to take her up on it.
