Turns out Jack Smith has Donald Trump’s number
Special Counsel Jack Smith is nothing if not efficient, determined, and focused: focused on taking down Donald Trump. Even as the news media exploded with news that he went to the Supreme Court for an expedited hearing, Politico reported that Smith is planning to use Trump’s phone data at trial. Trump’s attorneys will be jumping through so many hoops they’re going to get dizzy. We can only imagine what Smith has retrieved from Trump’s phone, which he used in the weeks that he tried to keep himself in office after he lost. The data will be accompanied by the expert who extracted and reviewed the data and may well identify others with whom Trump plotted. While Smith is busy adding additional information and evidence to his cases against Trump, Trump’s lawyers will be peddling the same old useless information to the courts.
The Supreme Court granted Smith’s motion for fast-track consideration and has directed Trump’s attorneys to respond by December 20 at 4:00 p.m. Daily Beast reported that SCOTUS “almost immediately” granted Smith’s request, which they called “a highly unusual rapid response.” While all this sounds promising, SCOTUS has only agreed to quickly review. They will then decide whether to take up the case. Lawmakers are already calling for Justice Clarence Thomas to recuse, since his wife was involved in the attempts to overturn the 2020 election. If Thomas has one shred of decency in him, this is a request he must honor. Donald Trump, meanwhile, is complaining and calling what Smith is doing “election interference.” He should know. Hopefully, Trump is as good at playing dodgeball as he is talking smack.
CNN broke the news that a former Mar-a-Lago employee who is now a witness was repeatedly contacted by Trump before the charges related to unlawful retention of classified documents was even filed. According to CNN, this employee quit his job after the FBI seized the classified documents from Mar-a-Lago. At the time of writing, this employee’s name has not been released, but Trump referred to him as “a good man.” The man apparently moved boxes for Trump, overheard various plots, and has shared that information with Jack Smith. CNN reported that the former employee was offered gifts, such as offers of legal representation paid for by Trump, tickets to a golf tournament, and repeated offers of re-employment. But Donald Trump isn’t guilty of any wrongdoing, at least that’s his story, and he’s dumbly sticking to it. This is merely more evidence that Trump willfully did wrong and was trying to cover it up by bribing a former employee. Perhaps if he had offered more than golf tickets and incompetent legal representation, he might have bought the man’s silence, but it’s far too late for that.
The Donald Trump plot just continues to thicken, with Special Counsel Jack Smith at the wheel. Smith is juggling two high-profile cases at once and is doing it well, which is bad news for Donald Trump. At the rate Smith is going, it is inevitable that Donald Trump will soon be a convicted felon on one charge or another-or all.
