Steve Bannon hits the panic button
If you watch right wing political figures closely enough, you see a pattern. The more loudly they beat their chest about how they’re going to magically steamroll everyone on a certain issue, the more it means they’re worried about how that issue is going to impact them. For instance, Donald Trump keeps talking about putting his political enemies in prison because he specifically fears that he’s going to prison.
This brings us to Steve Bannon, a guy who has spent years goading the media into writing stories about how dangerously powerful he is, even though his track record is a rather weak one. He lost control of Breitbart, lost his wealthy backers, somehow got fired from the “anything goes” Trump White House, and is now a convicted criminal who’s awaiting trial on fraud charges that will put him in prison for several years.
The kicker is that Steve Bannon hasn’t (yet) been criminally charged in relation to January 6th. But now, out of nowhere today, Bannon is insisting that when he and Trump are magically in charge of the country, he’s going to put Liz Cheney in prison for her role on the January 6th Committee.
This is prompting a whole lot of scaredy cats to say “Oh no, Bannon has a plan to take over the country and lock everyone up, we’re doomed!” But in reality this is a matter of Steve Bannon hitting the panic button. He’s clearly still worried about January 6th. He must be worried that he’s going to end up indicted in the Jack Smith probe or something along those lines.
So let’s learn to read between the lines when it comes to the bluster coming from the likes of Steve Bannon. Whatever topic someone like him is vowing revenge over, that’s the topic he’s the most panicked about. For right wing political figures, that kind of bluster is always aimed at hiding their own fear.
