Republican strategist sounds the alarm over Donald Trump’s bad poll numbers
The GOP’s favorite line of attack that they’ve been trying to push with the aid of mainstream media has been to go after President Biden’s age. There’s a bit of a trap being laid here – because even if you go on the defensive about his age with a good argument (and there are plenty to be made about his accomplishments), you’re still talking about the topic as though it’s relevant. The media seems to want a large brokered convention (which they have largely been hoping for since at least 2007), because it would be great for ratings, despite being terrible for uniting the party together with one presumptive nominee in time for November. The last time this happened for the Democratic Party was in 1968 – and the convention and subsequent election were historic failures.
Of course, the Democratic Party has shown a striking display of unity over the last four years with a number of solid surrogates going to bat for President Biden on the political talk shows every week, when the same can hardly be said of the GOP. Their frontrunner in all but name is Donald Trump who’s only three years younger than President Biden and whose cognitive state has been questionable at best for the last three years. It’s also been said on Palmer Report but not in many other places that despite his frontrunner status, he rarely has more than 50% support in any given poll of Republican voters. That’s about to change – with Erick Erickson “bothsidesing” the issue – calling on Republicans to nominate someone other than Trump, who polls show losing to President Biden.
Erickson’s hardly a Never Trumper – he’s a staunch right-wing media pundit who has doubled down on a lot of Trump’s more insane policies – so the fact that he’s going public with this means that there’s quite a few conservatives who are thinking this in the weeks leading up to the New Hampshire primary. It’s also noteworthy to mention that Erickson’s attack comes shortly after news of the former guy’s refusal to release his medical records – yet again. The 2024 campaign has barely begun but we’ve only begun to see how viciously the GOP is about to attack each other – both on stage and from the sidelines.
