Eric Swalwell just called House Republicans’ bluff
As predicted, when Republicans took back the House, they got to work on investigating their political opponents. Of course, they had no plans to work for the American people – why do it when they can instead abuse the one unchecked power they get as the House majority? The problem is, there isn’t really any scandal they can dig up that anyone who isn’t a hardcore Trumper actually cares about. Hunter Biden – something they’ve been playing up since 2020 – never got traction so they decided that somehow the next best thing was investigating a loan that Joe Biden paid back to his brother in 2018, when he wasn’t an elected official or a candidate for office.
Rep. James Comer went from an unknown, to a still relatively unknown, by pushing a make believe scandal where he keeps moving the goalposts to make up for his lack of evidence. If you’ve heard of him, it’s because he’s humiliated himself week after week – the lone Republican who cares about this while the rest are busy coming up with excuses to not govern.
He wasn’t counting on Eric Swalwell to call his bluff – but that’s exactly what happened, with Swalwell pointing out that Comer has only released two years of tax returns as opposed to Biden’s 25, so what is he hiding exactly? Republicans used to be good at making up scandals out of thin air, but now they can’t even get the subpoena part right, and Comer may have only invited further suspicion on himself in the process.
