Ugly new scandal for Clarence Thomas

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Even as Clarence Thomas suddenly has to worry about what Mark Meadows’ grand jury testimony under immunity might mean for his wife Ginni Thomas, it turns out Clarence has yet another scandal to worry about. Senator Ron Wyden shared this:

My staff on Senate Finance has uncovered new, damning information about Clarence Thomas’ loan from his friend Anthony Welters to purchase a luxury RV. New details show he never repaid a significant portion of the loan and then failed to disclose it on his ethics filings.

They found:

-A handwritten note from Clarence Thomas *on Supreme Court stationery* dated December 6, 1999 referencing an agreement between Thomas and Welters.

-A promissory note detailing the terms between Clarence and Ginni Thomas and Welters for a $267,230 loan at 7.5%.

-A handwritten note from Welters to Justice Thomas dated November 22, 2008, stating that Welters would no longer seek payments on the loan. The note also stated that Justice Thomas had only paid interest on the loan, indicating that the principal of $267,230 had not been repaid.

That’s… a lot. I’ve said all along that if someone like Clarence Thomas is going to go down for something, it’s not likely to be for the exotically complex fraud he’s engaged in, because that ends up being hard to prove to a jury. It’s likely to be the kind of basic financial fraud that would also get the average person indicted and convicted.

George Santos went down for identity theft against his own voters. Bob Menendez went down for stuffing money into a mattress. You get the idea. And now Clarence Thomas finally has a scandal which appears to be straight up loan fraud. Stay tuned.
