House Republicans just nominated Mike Johnson for Speaker – and he might be even worse than Jim Jordan
Jim Jordan is one of the most horrible people in the world. His wrestling scandal has assured that, even before getting to the numerous political sins he’s committed. But there are people in the House who would probably make an even worse Speaker of the House than Jim Jordan – and the Republicans may have just found one of them.
Tonight House Republicans nominated Mike Johnson to be Speaker of the House. Given that twenty-two House Republicans skipped the nominating meeting, it’s entirely possible that Johnson doesn’t have the votes, and he may not even be close to having the votes. But the Republicans who did attend the meeting sure are trying to sell Johnson as a bankable candidate.
So who is Mike Johnson? He’s a far right extremist who favors a national abortion ban, and he also led the way in trying to get the House to reject the 2020 election results. In other words, Mike Johnson is Jim Jordan without the reputation. And that’s not good at all.
If Jim Jordan were Speaker, we’d at least be able to use his numerous ugly cascading scandals against him, as a way of derailing his corrupt agenda. But with a no-name like Mike Johnson as Speaker, we’d be starting from square one in terms of exposing his scandalous nature. Which come to think of it is probably why House Republicans decided to nominate a no-name like Johnson.
Like I said, as of right now there’s no reason to believe that Mike Johnson will have the votes. The twenty-two House Republicans who skipped the meeting weren’t making a McDonald’s run. They skipped the meeting because they didn’t want to be subjected to the kind of harassment that “no” votes are reportedly being subjected to in these kinds of meetings. But it doesn’t mean they’ll vote for him when he gets to the floor.
But as of right now we should do everything we can to push back against this attempt at making Mike Johnson the Speaker of the House. This guy is just Jim Jordan with a jacket.
