“Too good to be true”
In a span of just a few hours yesterday, former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis cut a cooperating plea deal against Trump in Fulton County, former Trump attorney Michael Cohen testified against Trump in his New York trial, and it was revealed that former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows testified against Trump in Jack Smith’s case a long time ago.
As is always the case with every victory in politics, none of played out to perfection. Yes, Ellis managed to avoid prison. Yes, Cohen was supposed to testify a week ago. And subsequent reports suggest that Meadows was forced by the courts to testify under immunity, rather than agreeing to immunity.
But, as they say, these are just details. None of these quirks and caveats are going to change the fact that Donald Trump is firmly on track for prison and bankruptcy. If you’d been told awhile back that there would come a point where Trump was facing multiple trials, and that Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, Michael Cohen, Kenneth Chesebro, and Mark Meadows were all testifying against him, you’d think it was “too good to be true.” Yet here we are. And the list will likely get longer before the week is done.
