House Republican rubs it in after Jim Jordan loses Speaker vote for second time
Jim Jordan might have had an easier path to becoming Speaker of the House if he hadn’t behaved like Jim Jordan. He was the last candidate standing, but instead of trying to work with his Republican colleagues, he tried to harass them into falling in line – even bringing Sean Hannity into the mix. But it didn’t work, and now Jordan has failed to get even 200 votes in the second round today.
Now one House Republican Jen Kiggans is rubbing it in that Jim Jordan lost, and claiming that Jordan’s “threats and intimidation tactics” are not going to get her to cave:
I will never regret standing up for the military and for doing what’s right for Virginia’s Second District.
I was a helicopter pilot in the United States Navy…threats and intimidation tactics will not change my principles and values.

It’s worth pointing out that Kiggans represents a House district that only leans Republican by two points, and Cook Political has her 2024 reelection bid rated as a competitive “Lean Republican” race. So it’s fair to say that Kiggans is concerned that if Jim Jordan becomes Speaker, her moderate district may end up punishing her in 2024 for Jordan’s extremist antics.
You don’t have to give someone like Jen Kiggans any credit for voting against Jim Jordan, but it helps to understand the context for why she might be voting against Jordan. Some House Republicans in moderate districts are worried about being that closely associated with a scandal-plagued extremist clown like Jordan. On the other hand, some House Republicans in moderate districts have voted for Jordan – and we’re going to use that against them in 2024.
