I’ve spent a lot of time talking about the fourteen House Republicans who are running for reelection in toss-up races in 2024. Some unknown number of them have quietly spent 2023 keeping both potential shutdowns from happening, and keeping a Biden impeachment from happening, for fear that such antics would cost them their seats in their moderate districts.

But later today these fourteen House Republicans will be forced to vote, on the record, whether to make Jim Jordan the Speaker of the House. It’ll be interesting. We spent all Monday watching various House Republicans in far right districts – who are aligned with Jordan politically but hate him personally – making him suffer before ultimately caving. But there’s still very little information on how the fourteen House Republicans in the toss-up districts are going to vote. Only a fraction of those fourteen would need to vote against Jordan in order for him to lose.

The thing is, either way, we win. If Jordan’s candidacy falls through, that’ll be great for us, for obvious reasons. But if the House Republicans in toss-up districts really do vote to make a sandal-plagued extremist jackass like Jordan the Speaker, they’ll be handing us the political ammunition to take their seats from them in 2024.

I’m not the only one who sees it this way. Major Democratic-aligned political activist groups are already lining up to go directly at any House Republicans in toss-up districts who vote for Jim Jordan today. Not only will this make it easy for us to flip those toss-up districts in 2024, it’ll also ensure that the Democrats end up with the majority in 2024. So if that’s how they want to play it, bring it on.
