Much ado about nutjobs
It was a clear, cool evening in DC on Monday night. It was to be a group therapy session. The patients filed in, several looking visibly emotional.
As each new patient entered the room, others welcomed them. The patients at times, huddled together, pouring out their souls, using the meeting as an intense bonding session, as they spoke to each other about their hopes, fears, and dreams.
“Not ready to move on.” Those were the words of several of the patients — at least according to Patient Marjorie Taylor Greene they were. Patient Greene explained that some of the Republican patients are “frustrated” and not yet ready to “move forward” on a new Speaker.
“Therapy session.” That is exactly what one Republican House “lawmaker” called this meeting of the minds on that breezy evening on Monday. Yes, it’s apparently come to this.
“Cathartic” was also a word used as Republicans on this fantastical autumn night, as no clear consensus was reached on a new speaker. It was much ado about nothing (except emotional republicans who have apparently entered a fugue state since they pushed out their own speaker.)
Figures. What did Palmer Report tell you? That the GOP screws everything up. The endless search for a savior — sorry — speaker seems no different.
My question is, WHAT the heck is taking so long? This isn’t rocket science, people. Nor should this meeting on Monday have been needed for therapy, for bonding or for whatever the hell Republicans do when they’re not working, which seems to be 100 percent of the time.
I mean — pick someone, nominate them, and vote. Sounds like a plan! Right? Right? Well — no. It appears Republicans can’t agree on a speaker. This should come as no surprise because, honestly, I’m surprised Republicans can agree on ANYTHING these days, including their own names.
It would appear that Kevin’s name is back in the mix. And if Greene’s words can be trusted (always a big if), “quite a few” people are just not emotionally ready to get back to the dirty job of doing actual work.
So at the time of this writing, there is no front-runner in the race for speaker. There is no functional House of Representatives. No work is getting done in Congress because Republicans are too busy venting and feeling “cathartic” to do such work.
There is, however, much digging in heels, much ado about nothing, many hurt feelings and thoughts of revenge and intense emotions, and ignoring the crisis of not having a Speaker. In other words — nothing got done at this evening meeting and nothing’s got done since. Isn’t that just like a Republican?
