Looks like Donald Trump is going to end up with FIVE criminal trials
For quite awhile now we’ve known that Donald Trump will be put on criminal trial at least four times: two Jack Smith federal trials, the Fulton County Fani Willis trial, and the Manhattan Alvin Bragg trial. Now it looks like Trump is going to end up with a fifth criminal trial, in a different jurisdiction.
Trump did pretty much the same kind of election meddling in other states that he did in Georgia, so why hasn’t he been indicted for it elsewhere? For one thing, the laws are different in every state, so in some states it would be a lot harder to nail Trump for his election meddling.
But when it comes to Arizona, it was a simple matter of the state Attorney General being a Republican who didn’t want to go after Trump. Fortunately, that changed when Arizona very narrowly elected a Democratic Attorney General, Kris Mayes, who took office earlier this year. We’ve since seen reports that Mayes was looking into whether to bring charges against Trump in the state.
Now Rolling Stone has new reporting which makes it sound like, at least to my reading, that criminal charges against Donald Trump in Arizona are almost inevitable. The probe isn’t complete yet. But you generally wouldn’t go this deep into probing a high profile criminal target unless you’ve already seen enough along the way to know that you’re going to end up bringing charges. More to the point, you wouldn’t go telling the media that you’re this deep into a criminal probe against Donald Trump unless you’ve already decided to bring charges.
The timetable is anyone’s guess. Any new criminal indictment brought against Trump at this point would likely end up going to trial after his four upcoming criminal trials, by which time he’ll already be in prison. So the Arizona charges would just be tacking on additional years for a guy who is already set to spend the rest of his life in prison. But charging and convicting Trump in Arizona will help to further send a message to career criminals that they should stay out of politics going forward.
