Katy Tur crashes and burns – and let’s be honest, MSNBC has a much bigger problem
For a little while now I’ve been sounding the alarm about MSNBC’s increasing willingness to play publicist for the Republicans, by taking every empty Republican threat and hyping it as if it were real. MSNBC does this to try to manufacture drama and thus boost ratings, and doesn’t seem to care that this kind of hyperbolic fearmongering helps the Republicans sell themselves as being more powerful than they are.
MSNBC is going further down the rabbit hole today with Katy Tur interviewing House Republican Byron Donalds. He’s spewing lies, she’s barely pushing back. At this point MSNBC and the Republican House are conspiring together to pretend this “impeachment inquiry” is an impeachment.
You can say this is a Katy Tur problem, and it’s true that she’s one of the worst. But yesterday Ari Melber gave a similar free publicity interview to Matt Gaetz. Other recent MSNBC guests include Cornel West and Bill Maher, who at this point are both building their brands around dishonestly attacking the Democrats.
This isn’t just a Katy Tur problem. It’s not even an Ari Melber problem. This is an MSNBC problem. And it’ll get even worse across the entire network, unless we push back by letting every MSNBC host know that you’ll tune them out and punish them in the ratings department unless they get their act together.
