This is just ugly for Samuel Alito
An ethics complaint has been filed against Justice Samuel Alito. Alito (witch phobic, extreme court, obviously a republican) had done a blockbuster interview with the Wall Street Journal some months ago.
In that interview, Alito spoke out bitterly and angrily about Congress attempting to design an ethics code for them. “No provision in the Constitution gives Congress the authority to regulate the Supreme Court – period” the persnickety extreme court justice grumbled in that interview.
Alito enraged many in the legal community by saying this as well, not that Sammy appeared to care. Now Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is doing something about Alito‘s inappropriate remarks. He has filed an ethics complaint. In the complaint, White House, accuses of Alito of attempting to obstruct Senate investigations into the matter.
“Justice Alito’s opining will also fuel obstruction of our Senate investigations into this matter.” And Whitehouse also points out in his filing that Alito made these arrogant statements to someone who is representing Leonard Leo, a co-chair of the Federalist Society. Talk about conflict of interest!
Whitehouse says that Alito has propped up theories that Congress can’t investigate the lowest court in the land when they clearly can. Whitehouse asks Chief Justice John Roberts to look into this.
I’m glad Whitehouse is doing this. The fact is that Alito is acting less like a Justice lately and more like an Alt-right quack. His antics are things we’d expect from Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley but a Court Justice knows better — or should.
