Donald Trump just hit the panic button over Rudy Giuliani
On Tuesday Rudy Giuliani claimed that he still hadn’t been able to find an attorney to represent him in his Fulton County county criminal indictment. He also keeps claiming in court filings that he’s broke, and while this is sometimes just a tactic to hide money, his inability to hire an attorney points to him indeed being broke. If you have money on hand, you can always find some attorney who’s willing to take on a losing case and a senile lunatic client.
This set off a lot of speculation about whether Giuliani might end up cutting a cooperation deal against Donald Trump. Giuliani may be too incoherent to be any use as a trial witness. But if he knows where the proverbial bodies are buried, he really only needs to be able to point prosecutors in the right direction and say “dig here.”
Now it sounds like Donald Trump is very much worried about Giuliani imminently flipping on him. After months of headlines about how Trump was reportedly refusing to pay for Giuliani’s legal expenses, tonight Trump announced a high dollar fundraiser to pay for Giuliani’s legal bills.
This may be enough to keep Giuliani from flipping Trump, for now. But the larger point is that Giuliani is one of eighteen people in Fulton County who have been indicted and are under pressure to flip on Trump. Others like Jenna Ellis are already publicly complaining about Trump not paying their legal bills.
Trump’s 2024 fundraising numbers stink because everyone knows he’s just using the money to pay his legal bills. And by all accounts, he’s already blown through the pathetic amount of money that his PACs have raised. Now he has to try to figure out how to pay the legal bills of eighteen co-defendants in Fulton County (plus more in the Jack Smith cases). The kicker is that these criminal cases against Trump are so strong, he’s going to get convicted whether any of these people flip or not – and some of them are invariably going to flip.
