Georgia Republicans are already giving up on a sinking Donald Trump
Although Donald Trump has agreed to surrender himself to the Fulton County prosecutor’s office ahead of the Aug 25 deadline, we’re going to be seeing a whole lot of “hope-ium” floating around on social media via right-wing websites, either entirely fictional or based on slight glimmers of hope for conservatives, as they have to deal with what might be the most serious charges against Trump yet – and the usual tactics the former guy employs are actively working against him.
A few of his lackeys have attempted a last ditch effort to move the trial out of Fulton County, where Donald Trump might find jury members that will vote for him more favorably.
Another unusual feature of the Georgia state constitution is that it forbids the state governor from pardoning convicted criminals, which means that if Trump is finished off in this state, he’s stuck with whatever sentence he’s given, as a new Republican president would be unable to save him with a pardon as well.
There have been calls from Trump allies to change the law, but at the moment, top Republicans within that state are already openly declaring that the law will not be changed for Donald Trump, despite Gov. Kemp being a Republican. In other words, Republicans in positions of power – in this case the statehouse speaker – who have found the former guy to be non-feasible are already giving up on him.
