Fulton County grand jury goes late into the evening with Trump indictment
All along it’s been widely believed that Fulton County DA Fani Willis has the grand jury available to her today and tomorrow. We still don’t know why she asked two witnesses, who had been scheduled to testify tomorrow, to show up today instead. But according to multiple reporters on the ground, we do know that one of them just left the courthouse, and the other is sitting there waiting to testify tonight.
We don’t know if this means that indictments will come down tonight after this witness testifies. For that matter we still don’t know why Fani Willis has decided to pack so much into today. Is she trying to finish tonight because there’s an unknown conflict that’ll prevent her from being able to wrap it up tomorrow? Is she packing so much into today’s schedule because she has even more of the case to present tomorrow?
In any case the Sheriff is still at the courthouse, and is telling the media cryptic things like “There’s really only one other thing that’s going to happen today” and “You’ll have to wait and see.” Well okay then. Does that mean the “one thing” is the indictment? Is the Sheriff saying that it’s going to happen, or that it’s the only thing that can happen tonight?
It’s remarkable that, even at this extreme endgame stage for the grand jury where it’s almost all over, we still have more questions than answers. But grand jury proceedings are meant to be secret by default, so we’re not supposed to know what’s coming. But one way or the other, we’ll know soon enough.
