Bill Barr just heaped dirt on Donald Trump
Jack Smith is not playing Donald Trump’s game. The day after the judge instructed Trump not to attempt to intimidate witnesses, he posted on his Truth Social: “IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU!” Trump had the nerve to call Jack Smith “deranged,” but he must have been looking in the mirror. Instead of engaging Trump in any way, Smith quietly filed a motion for protective order. Trump’s typical response was to ask for a delay, and Smith immediately opposed the delay. Trump cannot delay the inevitable. CBS News reported that Smith’s immediately filed response to Trump’s delay included: “The Government stands ready to press send on a discovery production. The defendant is standing in the way.” Smith knows what he’s dealing with: a wanna-be mob boss who creates problems and then tries to hide from them. Trump’s luck is running out.
Palmer Report mentioned last week that if Bill Barr were to testify against Trump, Barr would bury him. Interestingly, the Hill reported that Barr is willing to testify against Trump. Barr appeared on CBS’s “Face the Nation” and confirmed that he is willing to testify. He went on to share that he told Trump on “at least three occasions” that there was no evidence of fraud in the election. He further reiterated his belief that Trump’s reliance on the First Amendment will not save him in this case. He told the host: “It’s certainly a challenging case, but I don’t think it runs afoul of the First Amendment. From a prosecutor’s standpoint, I think it’s a legitimate case.” Trump’s attorneys continue to sing the same old sad tune that Trump’s speech falls under the First Amendment, but they have a problem: there was no fraud in the election. Once that became known-and make no mistake, Trump had knowledge-what he did was criminal. Barr acknowledged that as well.
As Barr pointed out, the states made their decisions. They counted, they recounted, and in some cases, they ran audits, and they came up with the same outcome-Trump lost the election. State elections officials have been doing this for decades. They know what they’re doing and needed no help from a lying grifter who merely wanted to remain in office for his own gain. That is finally starting to take root. Bloomberg reported Sunday that a new CBS News/YouGov poll revealed that 51% of Americans believe that Trump tried to illegally remain in office, 29% believe he acted legally (we can guess who those are), and 20% said they didn’t believe Trump wanted to remain in office, which makes no sense. Why did Trump want to nullify the results if he didn’t want to remain in office? No matter which way you look at it, this poll gives some insight into the thinking of the voting public. These numbers will likely change as Trump’s trials get underway and more evidence is revealed to the American public. Bill Barr wants to do his part to set the record straight. Between the evidence and Barr’s testimony, Trump is done.
