“BIG BLOWBACK!!!” – Donald Trump goes off the deep end about his January 6th indictment
If you don’t want them to indict you for an insurrection, you probably shouldn’t incite an insurrection. That’s the quandary Donald Trump finds himself in tonight, as he sits home fretting over his Jack Smith target letter, wondering if he’s getting indicted tomorrow. Trump is, predictably, going completely out of his gourd on social media.
Interestingly enough, Trump has now announced that there is “BIG BLOWBACK!!!” to his January 6th indictment. Here’s the thing, though. There’s no blowback. There isn’t going to be any. Trump has been indicted twice now, and his comatose base never did wake up. They’re worn out. They got tired of having to cheerlead for a guy who rarely appears in public, comes off as half dead when he does, and is just barely pretending to even be running for anything. And they’re afraid that if they try to do anything, they’ll end up in prison like hundreds of January 6th attackers have.
So Donald Trump is all alone in this. I mean, he’ll presumably have plenty of indicted co-conspirators once it’s all said and done. But there’s no one who can actually do anything to help Trump at this point. Even his House Republican allies are striking out with some of the most embarrassingly ineffective public hearings of all time. Even they know there’s no saving Trump.
Trump is now looking at indictment after indictment, criminal trial after criminal trial, and it’s got to be obvious by now even to him that the law of averages says he’ll end up sentenced to prison in at least one trial before he can even get to the next election. Trump can fantasize about all the blowback he wants. But there’s no magic carpet ride rescue coming for him. And he knows it.
