Joe Biden really came through on this one
The problem with political coverage is that all too often we focus on the dramatic element as both Democrats and Republicans posture themselves on what their next move will be. This tends to leave us with either the impression that the Democrats are weak and aren’t fighting hard enough for their constituents, or that the Republicans are just doing the most evil things they can think of just by saying they’ll do it – and they’re going to just magically get away with it all.
None of these things are true, of course – but because so much of what actually goes on politically happens behind the scenes, it’s easier to focus on all of this than it is on the results. It’s why it’s important for us, the voters, to pass on news of Democratic political accomplishments rather than some ridiculous narrative that we’re all doomed because lawmakers won’t resort to whatever the magic bullet solution happens to be this week – 14th Amendment, Codify, Senate Parliamentarian, etc. – you’ll notice that the script never really changes too much.
If you look at what Democrats are actually doing, you’ll notice that yet again the Biden Administration came through on one of its major promises yet again – killing the hidden fees that many ticketing and travel companies use to overbill consumers – with companies like Live Nation, SeatGeek, xBk, Airbnb, the Pablo Center at the Confluence, TickPick, DICE, and the Newport Festivals Foundation joining President Biden on a joint call and agreeing to disclose all fees upfront by the end of the year – making for an overall better online shopping experience – a decision they made ahead of the president calling on Congress to pass legislation that would eliminate hidden fees. Having the right people helming your economy can bring about improvement in ways you may not have anticipated. While calling on President Biden to use the “bully pulpit” you probably were too busy to notice that he did.
