“Scared shitless”

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Former Trump White House Chief of staff John Kelly now says Donald Trump is “scared shitless” by this Espionage Act indictment, because he’s finally being held accountable. Kelly is a weasel and an enabler (and seemingly a racist), and his words come far too late for him to get any credit for saying this. But here’s the thing: it’s still a win for us.

This comes after Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, Bill Barr, and Mick Mulvaney also throwing Trump under the bus to varying degrees over the past few days. You don’t have to give them any credit for it. But their attacks on Trump help us, so let’s take the win.

It’s also the latest reminder that the popular narrative that “Republicans will stick with Trump no matter what” was obviously never accurate. Republican political figures are selfish by nature. They were always going to stick with Trump for precisely as long as they thought it would personally benefit them and their careers. Now that they’ve calculated that they can get further ahead by throwing Trump under the bus, they’re (predictably) doing it. There will be more of them to come. After all, Trump’s troubles are just getting started.
