Jim Jordan swings and misses at Merrick Garland
All along Attorney General Merrick Garland has made very clear that the DOJ’s criminal case against Donald Trump is Jack Smith’s case, and that Garland isn’t going to get involved. Garland publicly denied Trump’s lawyers’ request for a meeting a couple weeks ago, and Trump’s lawyers ended up having to meet with Smith yesterday instead.
But Trump and his allies still don’t seem to get how any of this works. Jim Jordan, who never met a scandal he didn’t want to be on the wrong side of, is now “demanding” that Merrick Garland give him the details of Jack Smith’s Trump probe. That’s cute. That would be like me demanding that the NBA let me play in tomorrow night’s Finals game. Neither “demand” is a real thing that could even possibly happen, and both should be laughed at accordingly.
As always, with these kinds of “not even a real thing” kinds of demands, all this does is give away just how desperate Donald Trump and his allies are. They’ve got nothing to work with here. When they’re reduced to demanding things that they know will just be laughed at, it means they’re out of real options. With this silly demand, Jordan might as well be waving a white flag on Trump’s behalf.
