Jim Jordan makes desperation move, giving away that Donald Trump knows Jack Smith has him nailed
Jim Jordan is now formally asking the DOJ to turn over all the details of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s criminal investigation into Donald Trump. That’s cute, but so what? The DOJ has a policy of not turning over the details of ongoing investigations, there is nothing Jordan can do to force the DOJ to violate policy, and that’s the end of that story – or at least it should have been.
Unfortunately, multiple news sites have run headlines today which incorrectly frame Jordan’s request as a real thing that could actually happen. These articles generally then go on to admit that Jordan’s request is not a real thing and will not get him anywhere. But these headlines are sending a lot of people on social media into a panic.
People are posting panicked tweets demanding that the DOJ not cooperate, and some are calling Garland a coward on the false assumption that he’ll cooperate. And it’s all over nothing, simply because headline writers everywhere failed us today.
Here’s the kicker. Once you figure out that Jim Jordan’s request is not a real thing and cannot help Trump in any way, you realize that Jordan’s request is actually good news. It means Trump is scared out of his mind about his impending espionage indictment and has no actual plan for saving himself, and is instead reduced to pushing his allies into making pointless desperation moves. That’s a sign of someone who’s toast and knows he’s toast.
