The rats are fleeing the sinking ship
In spite of Rudy Giuliani’s public declaration awhile back that he had “insurance” against Donald Trump and wasn’t afraid to use it, the two men have thus far seemingly remained loyal to each other. But the night is still young in that sense. Meanwhile, everyone around them suddenly seems to be fleeing.
Trump and Giuliani have now each had attorneys quit on them within a span of less than 72 hours. These attorneys are representing Trump and Giuliani in different kinds of cases, and their departures are under different kinds of circumstances. But one can’t help notice the similarly dark themes. Giuliani’s attorney says he’s quitting because Giuliani isn’t even bothering to pay him. Trump’s attorney hasn’t said why he’s quitting, but he did testify against Trump to a DOJ grand jury a few months ago.
Rudy Giuliani’s attorney in a civil case is walking away right after Giuliani has been hit with a much uglier civil case, even as Donald Trump’s criminal defense attorney in the classified document case is walking away right after the National Archives announced it was turning over proof of Trump’s guilt. It doesn’t get much uglier than this. How much longer before Trump and Giuliani have no one left to betray but each other?
