Turns out the media was full of crap about that one poll supposedly showing Trump ahead of Biden
Just over a week ago, the Washington Post and ABC News jointly released a 2024 presidential general election poll claiming that criminal defendant Donald Trump was seven points ahead of President Joe Biden. The poll was immediately debunked as inaccurate; the sampling included people who aren’t even registered to vote, and the methodology was laughable enough that it somehow showed Trump winning the youth vote over Biden.
Even though this was one of the most laugh out loud polls released in some time, the entire mainstream media – literally every single major news outlet on all sides – immediately jumped on this poll and held it up as supposed proof that Trump will likely win in 2024. The (entire) media has long been desperate to hype the notion that Trump will somehow end up back in office, because it excites right wingers into staying tuned in, and scares and outrages normal humans into staying tuned in. Not a single major media outlet was willing to admit that this poll was obviously fatally flawed. For that matter, the media was unwilling to admit that most other recent polls were showing the opposite result.
In other words, the (entire) media was flat out lying to you about the polls. When all the polls say the same thing except for one poll that says the opposite, and the media cherry picks just that one poll while pretending the other polls don’t exist, that’s a lie. It’s time we get used to using that word. The media lies to you about the polls.
If you need further proof that the media is lying to you about the polls, consider this. In the week since that one wacky WaPo/ABC poll was released, three other major polling outlets have released new polls showing Biden ahead of Trump. The media has ignored these polls entirely, because they don’t fit with the ratings-friendly narrative that Trump is more dangerously powerful than ever.
It’s time we all acknowledge that the media is lying to us about what the polls are even saying. The polls may have their own problems, but that’s not the issue here. When the media cherry picks the one poll that says the opposite of all the other polls, and falsely presents it as being the only poll, THAT IS A LIE of omission. We need to start constantly calling out the media for its constant lies about the polls. Stop blaming the polls. Stop saying things like “I don’t trust the polls.” Start holding the MEDIA accountable for its lies about the polls. If you blame the polls, you’re letting the media off the hook for lying to you. And the fact that the entire media constantly lies to us about these things is the single biggest threat we face.
