What does the RNC think it’s doing?
Someone asked me if the Republican National Committee leadership truly grasps that its 2024 “frontrunner” Donald Trump will be in federal prison before the election cycle even really gets going, or if the RNC is in denial. That’s a good question. There are two schools of thought.
The RNC is surely afraid Trump will retaliate and harm its 2024 prospects across the board if it distances itself from his sinking ship too early. We’re still a long way away from 2024 anyway, so the RNC may just be waiting for prosecutors to take him out, so it doesn’t have to.
On the other hand, with the entire media spending every day unanimously chanting that Trump is magically invincible, even smart people who are in a position to know better can end up succumbing to that repetitive nonsense. And the people currently running the RNC are not that smart to begin with.
The bottom line is that we’re still a very long way away from the point where the 2024 presidential election cycle actually begins to matter or make sense. It’s far too early to even be talking about 2024. And if Trump hadn’t prematurely launched his 2024 “campaign” in a desperate attempt at fundraising off his criminal indictments, we wouldn’t even be talking about 2024 this early. If nothing else, the RNC knows that there’s plenty of time for Trump to finish imploding before the actual 2024 cycle starts to get underway.
