What the hell is going on with the North Carolina Republican legislature?
It was several years ago. She wanted to speak about the abortion she had. So she did. She described a harrowing ordeal where her doctor had told her that her pregnancy would not be viable. “It was awful” she sobbed. “It was painful, and it was sad.”
“My womb and my uterus are not up for your political grab,” North Carolina Rep. Tricia Cotham said emotionally. And she was right. Fast forward to 2023. North Carolina — one of the few southern states where abortion was still legal has just advanced a most-likely VETO-PROOF bill to the Governor’s desk.
It bans most abortions after twelve weeks. And the GOP got that veto-proof majority because of Tricia Cotham — the lady I wrote about above. Corruption comes from many places, and occasionally, it hits Democrats as well. Cotham was a Democrat just a few months ago. She won her race in North Carolina as a Democrat. She was sworn in as a Democrat. She made promises as a Democrat.
And now she’s gone — the democratic incarnation of Cotham, that is. In her place stands a smilingly stepford republican — who has switched her party to Republican, gone all in on insulting the Democratic Governor, and has been solely responsible for banning a procedure she got and spoke out about many times.
The reason why? Why did Cotham DO THIS? We don’t know. Many theories have been floated. You see, Cotham did not just leave the democratic party. She turned on them viciously, accusing them of “bullying” her and forcing her out of the party.
Democrats are baffled. They have no idea what she is talking about. One sees Cotham’s eeriness if one goes to her Twitter page. The whole page is a tribute to — herself. Retweets of various republicans talking of what a great person she is. Retweets of Republicans welcoming her to the party.
You would also see thousands — maybe millions of plaintive cries from constituents who voted for her as a DEMOCRAT. These tweets are riddled with pain as they accuse Cotham of betrayal — of abandoning them in their hour of need.
Cotham seems to ignore most of those tweets. She’s like the ultimate zoned-out mannequin, like a good puppy she tweets Republican messaging, refuses to talk to her constituents, and ignores many questions about her pro-choice views.
She will be up for re-election again in 2024. Already Democrats are vowing to make sure she isn’t reelected. And that is good because who knows who Tricia Cotham will be by then? After all — she has no inner core; she’s demonstrated that. Perhaps as bad as she is now, she will even be more of a monster in 2024.
