What does CNN think it’s even doing?
If there’s one thing I dislike, it’s whiny CEO’s. You know the type. There are good CEO’s, sure. But there are also high-powered executives who seem to want to make a career out of whining. It’s unappealing and a major turn-off. And like an irritating fly, one just can’t get rid of, one of these whiners is back. It’s Chris Licht of CNN!
In an event on Thursday hosted by the Paley Center for Media, Licht spoke out about — Licht. His words were one long, straight-up whine. Licht whined and whined and whined some more, showing that his fee-fees are still hurt at all the bad press he’s received.
Licht complained about the level of scrutiny he’s received since taking over the job of CEO. He also said he knew what he was getting into but didn’t know what he was getting into — if that makes any sense.
Licht said he knew the job would be hard but didn’t realize just how hard it was until he started. This is not the first time Licht has complained about how mean people are to him. He once went off on liberals, complaining about our level of vitriol.
I haven’t seen much vitriol. People are just being honest. The fact is CNN’s ratings continue to suck. That’s not vitriol; it’s the truth. And there is still massive drama going on at CNN. For example, reportedly, Licht is trying to lure Gayle King to the network. But some at CNN are reportedly upset at the amount of money Licht is prepared to give her — because CNN had told its people there was little cash on hand.
Another problem is who will take over the 9:00 PM hour, which has been dormant since Chris Cuomo left. Licht, who is not new to the network anymore, apparently is balking at actually hiring anyone. Again — not vicious -just the truth.
Then there is Laura Coates. She had been hosting the 11:00 PM hour. Reportedly though, Licht is pulling her from that job. And black staffers are furious. Coates, who is black herself, has done a pretty good job. However, apparently, Licht just can’t make a decision and stick to it.
There is talk Licht might bring Kaitlin Collins to primetime permanently. Collins got her start at the Daily Caller, and her presentation is wooden. But that appears to be something Licht likes. So to Licht, I’d say — go whine somewhere else. It is your job as CEO to listen to criticism. And you’ve built up a lot of it.
