This morning Donald Trump decided to move on from his brief failed effort at acting quasi-normal, and instead he reverted to behaving like his usual unprofessional and demented self. As if to make up for lost time, he decided to take things overboard even by his standards. This included everything from tweeting a depiction of himself violently assaulting Hillary Clinton, to a bizarre “Rocket Man” reference. Let’s just say that it didn’t go over well.

Early on Sunday morning, Trump tweeted “I spoke with President Moon of South Korea last night. Asked him how Rocket Man is doing. Long gas lines forming in North Korea. Too bad!” He was apparently trying to be clever by using the name of the Elton John song in reference to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who keeps testing nuclear missiles in spite of Trump’s ongoing empty threats. But it turned out the internet wasn’t laughing with Trump; it was rather decisively laughing at him.

The retorts came swiftly. Eugene Eu quipped that “Rocket Man sounds like an Elton John song Trump was listening to while trying to craft world policies.” Frederic Lumiere replied “You really think taunting a hostile nuclear power on Twitter is a good idea!? Please resign. We need a real POTUS. Nations around the world are much more concerned about you than ‘Rocket Man.'” It got even uglier.

Patrick Moote pointed out Donald Trump’s sheer inappropriateness: “I bet fart jokes are real show stopper for ya too! Or does the end of the world need to be on the line for u to laugh?” Scott Westmoreland got to the heart of why Trump acts in such an insecure manner: “Barack Obama is the most beloved man in the world. Hillary Clinton has a best selling book and won the popular vote.” Contribute to Palmer Report
