Alvin Bragg drops the legal hammer on Jim Jordan
Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg has filed suit against Jim Jordan to get him to stop interfering in the Trump case. Smart move. Get the courts to order Jordan to stay out of it. Bragg may be cautious, but he’s not to be trifled with.
Why is Bragg doing this instead of criminally charging Jordan with obstruction? The speech and debate clause would make it tricky to get such a charge to stick. If Jordan were able to quickly get the charge thrown out in court, it would just embolden him from there.
This suit also allows Bragg to seek immediate court relief from Jordan’s attempted subpoena of former Manhattan prosecutor Mark Pomerantz. Bragg and Pomerantz are surely on the same side of this, if nothing else.
Smart and savvy people go with the strategy that’s most likely to get the job done, not the most “aggressive” strategy. And that’s what Alvin Bragg is doing here.
