Texas Republicans are headed for disaster
If Texas Republican Tony Gonzales is any indicator of how Republicans plan to run on abortion, they’re heading for disaster — again. That’s because Gonzales flipped out on CNN while speaking with Dana Bash. This was something to see. Gonzales appeared to morph into someone in need of help right before the audience’s eyes — and it all came from Bash questioning him about abortion.
All Bash did was ask Gonzales to please address the question. And he did! His reaction was such defensiveness, such insanity that I really am hoping other Republicans decide to adopt his response — because if they do, we will win by 50 points.
Bash asked him about the Texas Judge’s decision to ban the abortion drug, nationwide. First Gonzales proceeded to disrespect Biden AND the FDA. How? By saying Republicans have “the power of the purse,” so there better not be any funny business!
Meaning we need to follow the Judge’s direction with no complaint. Then he threatened to defund the FDA. I kid you not. So now we can add — the FDA to the quickly growing list of people and places the GOP wants to defund.
But to her credit, Bash pushed back, pointing out that this drug is also frequently prescribed for women who experience a miscarriage. “So, are they just on their own?” Bash asked him. The man’s response was to say no, no! Then he offered a solution — let’s stop talking about abortion.
And THAT is when he dissolved into pure insanity. Referring to himself as a “Prolific Prolifer” (New term here?) Gonzales then tried to change the subject. We have to get off the abortion conversation,” he barked out. He spoke about Texas and bizarrely compared weed to abortion.
“We don’t have marijuana here,” he exclaimed. “Women have a whole lot more issues than just abortion.” Thank you for mansplaining that, Gonzales, and making a fool of yourself on national television.
It gets worse. “Let’s talk about you know,” he said. “Let’s talk about the other things that are happening in this world.” Well, that’s one strategy to adapt, I suppose.
