Manhattan grand jury meeting again tomorrow, reportedly with one or two additional witnesses against Donald Trump
After the Manhattan District Attorney decided not to convene the grand jury today in the criminal case against Donald Trump, without publicly stating a reason, it set off a tidal wave of speculation. But now we’re getting some information about what’s happening.
The DA will convene the grand jury again tomorrow (Thursday), and there will apparently be additional witness testimony, although it’s still not clear how solid that reporting is. For instance CNN is reporting that Michael Cohen might testify tomorrow to rebut the claims made on Monday by pro-Trump witness Robert Costello. CNN is also reporting that another unnamed witness might testify tomorrow.
It’s still not quite clear what the sourcing is on any of this. Fox News was the first outlet to claim that another new witness was still set to testify. And before that, Robert Costello himself was the first person to claim that another new witness was still set to testify. Costello wouldn’t be in a position to know this, and it’s not clear if Fox is merely using Costello as a source. Nor is it clear if CNN’s “source” is Costello or someone else.
So we still don’t know what we don’t know. But at least now we know that the Manhattan grand jury will be back in session tomorrow. If one or two witnesses really are testifying tomorrow, will that leave enough time for the closing argument and the indictment vote? We don’t know. It’s possible. We’re just going to have to wait for more details to surface. The DA knows what all is really going on, but none of us do. And since grand jury processes are secret, we’re only going to know whatever leaks out – until the indictment happens and speaks for itself.
