Here comes Ruben Gallego
If I were Kyrsten Sinema, I’d bow out gracefully about now. Reportedly, Arizona Democratic Representative Ruben Gallego is set to challenge Sinema for her Senate seat in the 2024 election. Gallego has long been outspoken in his criticism of Sinema, whom he believes has not been there for the American people.
Rumors have swirled for a long time now that Gallego was planning something like this. Now apparently, he’s decided to go forward. Sources say he plans to launch his hot new campaign with a video introducing himself to the American people. He also reportedly plans a media tour.
Ruben Marinelarena Gallego was born November 20, 1979. He is a member of Congress and a former U.S. Marine combat veteran who proudly served our country during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was elected to Congress in 2014.
He became involved in politics due to his desire to help his fellow Marine.
In 2011, The Arizona Republic named him “a distinguished freshman lawmaker. Gallego also founded Citizens for Professional Law Enforcement. This group had the goal of recalling Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Gallego believes in the Democratic Party platform, including abolishing the filibuster. “The filibuster isn’t a tool to encourage sophisticated debate,” Gallego wrote on Twitter. “It’s a tool to kill legislation that the vast majority of Americans siupport. “Now, it’s a tool being used to kill voting rights. If it’s democracy or the filibuster, I’ll take democracy.”
Bravo. Gallego is an extraordinary candidate with a highly compelling backstory and would make a great Senator. And if I were Sinema right now (and thank goodness, I’m not), I’d be very, very nervous.
