Biden 2024 has come alive
The nonsense about President Biden not running for re-election has largely been overblown speculation on the part of a beltway punditry that is largely out of touch with average voters – dumping their concerns in favor of whatever scenario can conjure up the most ratings by drawing in viewers. While Joe Biden, a former vice president, was always the heavy favorite to win the nomination in 2020 against a playing field with a large array of candidates, they liked to pretend he had no chance until he won South Carolina in a blowout – and questioned if anyone else would be able to beat Donald Trump. Not long after Biden was sworn in as president, they started a new narrative about who would replace him in 2024.
Joe Biden has run for president three times – each time in a crowded field – and he’s had his eyes set on the Oval Office for at least fifty years – so it makes zero sense that he would step away from the job of president a minute earlier than he’s required to by law. This story only makes sense if you consider it means another crowded primary like 2020 was – with lots of debates for networks.
Fortunately, the Democratic Party itself has other plans – with an overwhelming number of voters thinking that President Biden can win in 2024 if he runs for re-election – and the party’s progressives lining up behind him, as Rep. Pramila Jayapal, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus came out on Monday endorsing his re-election as the best way for the party to get its agenda finished in the next six years. Despite the media wanting to default to their usual “Dems in disarray” narrative, it’s a bit of a stretch to use it, as everyone is on the same page – with a clear coalition between moderates and the left that will give the party plenty to run on in 2024.
