What does CNN even think it’s doing?
In its heyday, CNN was actually a good news station. But time passes, and things change. These days, CNN is little more than a footnote, it seems. They’re like a waterfall without the flow. They just sit there devoid of viewers, gamely trying everything to up their ratings.
Recently Chris Licht, the new President (although he’s not that new anymore), assigned Jake Tapper to the 9:00 PM slot to oversee election coverage. Tapper’s ratings were low from the start. Now it is being reported — no more Tapper at 9:00 PM after the election.
Don lemon’s show at night was canceled, and he was put in the early morning hour to host a new CNN morning show. The ratings are horrible. Do you see a pattern here? I must ask — what is Licht doing?
Other than reshuffling the deck — moving familiar faces here and there — not much, it would seem. CNN has had more trouble this past year than Matt Gaetz has hair products. Nothing they do is working, and their ratings continue to fall. So what’s the solution?
Many have different ideas. But I’ll say one thing. The network needs to take some chances and act boldly. Reshuffling the familiar faces is the easy way out. It shows no daring, no ability to find and nurture new talent.
The network gambled on getting a right-wing audience. We could have told them how that would work out. Some of us did. The problem is Maga was never going to tune in. And they lost a lot of people who didn’t trust them anymore.
I can’t help but wonder WHAT Licht is doing. He’s not so new anymore. The ratings still suck. Very few new faces are seen. Perhaps nobody wants to be there.
And they have nobody to blame but themselves. This is an excellent example of what pandering does. CNN set out to be suck-ups and achieved their goal — and lost the faith and confidence of their audience. If THAT is what they were aiming for, I suppose it was a job well done.
