Either Donald Trump has hired a team of attorneys who are every bit as strangely inappropriate as he is, or the pressure of trying to figure out how to defend Trump is simply causing them all to melt down. At this point Trump’s Russia scandal attorneys are competing with each other to see who can embarrass themselves the most thoroughly. The one named “Ty Cobb” just took the cake – for the second time in the past week.

Over the weekend, Donald Trump attorney Ty Cobb was in the middle of a late night email exchange with reporter Natasha Bertrand when he decided he couldn’t handle the questions being asked, prompting him to reply “Are you on drugs?” That moment, and the public embarrassment of seeing that quote in the headlines, doesn’t appear to have motivated him to keep his remarks to himself. This time Cobb got into it with a total stranger over email, and his responses were nothing short of bizarre.

Someone named Jeff Jetton emailed a series of obscene accusations to Ty Cobb out of the blue, for the rather clear purpose of trying to get under his skin. Suffice it to say that the plan worked. According to Mother Jones (link), which is now in possession of those emails, at one point Trump’s lawyer wrote a mostly incoherent bit of word salad which we’ll post here verbatim: “I am on’t be here for long but will be I my piece against bullshit Russian bullshit,” Not shockingly, he also wrote this in the middle of the night. But it got worse.

At another point Ty Cobb – apparently failing to grasp the irony of the fact that he was in the process of exchanging incoherently profane late night emails with a stranger – wrote that “the more adults in the room will be better.” If Cobb thinks of himself as one of the adults in Trump’s White House, how poorly are the proverbial children behaving?
