It’s crunch time!
It would be exquisite if one could paint a portrait of what we want this November to look like. It would show a ravishing blue wave. It would show voters turning out in record numbers, lines around the corner, women coming to defend their own freedom and autonomy. And then it would show dancing in the streets as we won by huge margins, canceling the GOP and all their archaic ideas.
And this picture can be ours. As we get closer to the midterms, it might be rather helpful to write a bit about what we can do. Some people do not have money to donate. Some can’t abide by phone banking. (As someone who has phone banked for years, I can say it is not for the faint of heart.) Here are some things people can do:
– Send postcards. Postcards are an excellent way to remind people to make a plan. Some people intend to vote but forget. Life gets in the way. Sending postcards has been proven to be a successful way of turning out more voters.
– “Adopt voters.” That’s right. Votefwd.org allows you to “adopt” voters and write letters to them about the midterms. Registering for a free account can look at templates and create your own. It’s a fun way to get the word out.
– Door knocking. This is only for some, but — particularly if you live in a purple state — it is a fantastic way to contact voters.
– Phone banking. I love phone banking. Many different sites are offering one the chance to call voters. If you enjoy voter outreach and enjoy talking on the phone, think about signing up for a phone banking shift.
– Signs. Putting up signs reminding people to vote is an easy thing to do and fun as well.
– Donating.
– Tweeting out the messages from Democratic candidates.
No matter which voter outreach method, you can make a difference.
