GOP Senator Ron Johnson just stepped in it
It’s probable that almost every human being has, at one time or another had a slip of the tongue. It happens to the best of us. Sometimes words just do not come out correctly. But what if a slip of the tongue is really the person saying the quiet part out loud?
I bring this up because of Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, who is in the reelection campaign of his career against Mandela Barnes. And his little slip of the tongue could not have helped in that regard. The setting was Fox Non-news where all Republicans go to spread propaganda. Johnson was speaking to host Maria Bartiromo. The two were discussing white supremacy and how many cite it as an important issue. It was then that Ron Johnson made a Freudian slip that still has people talking.
“My ranking member,” Ron explained, “Would always be bringing up white supremacy, which I condone,” he said cheerfully. Oops! “I mean, I condemn,” Johnson, red-faced, hastily corrected himself. But it was too late. The damage was done. If one googles Ron Johnson, this story is literally all one sees.
Yahoo/News called it”The most Right-Wing slip of the tongue ever.”
“Paging Dr. Fraud.” This came from numerous Twitter accounts. It was a house of mirth. Twitter shook so hard with laughter that it is surprising the site didn’t collapse. Here are some of the very entertaining responses to the White Supremacy connoisseur. “Nice when they admit it.”
“If the condone fits…”
“Did Ron just admit he’s a member of the Klan?”
“Hard to keep racism inside your head”
“Ron’s motto – make America white again.”
“You should give him a break! It was obviously unintentional. Just Kidding!”
“I really don’t think Ron’s racist. I KNOW he is.”
“Douchenozzle.”
“Can you say self-own?”
“Ron’s having a bad day.”
“It looked like Maria was gonna laugh.”
“Dr. Freud to Ron’s office, please.”
“Oh, thanks, Ron, but we already knew that.”
So the question remains: was it an accidental slip of the tongue, or did Ronny admit the quiet part out loud? Given the man’s revolting positions on nearly every issue, I am going with door number two.
