Matt Gaetz’s worst nightmare is back
Major news outlets have previously reported that Matt Gaetz unsuccessfully sought a pardon from Donald Trump on charges related to sex trafficking, but Gaetz has long denied it. However, former Trump White House official Johnny McEntee has now testified to the January 6th Committee that Gaetz did indeed personally ask him about a Trump pardon. McEntee also testified that Gaetz told him he’d asked Mark Meadows about a pardon.
This news serves to help put Gaetz’s underage sex trafficking scandal back in the spotlight just 53 days before the midterm elections. Gaetz is expected to easily win reelection in his far right district, even with the scandal. However, these renewed headlines connecting Gaetz to alleged underage sex trafficking could be a headache for other House Republicans seeking reelection in moderate swing districts, for having failed to expel Gaetz or even support removing him from committees.
Meanwhile, as far as anyone knows, the DOJ’s underage sex trafficking criminal probe into Matt Gaetz is still ongoing. Major news outlets have previously reported that three of Gaetz’s former close associates, including his ex-girlfriend and his best friend Joel Greenberg, have flipped on him. Gaetz may not get indicted until after the midterms, but even if so, his reelection “victory” may quickly prove to be a hollow one.
