Donald Trump stole nuclear secrets. That’s the ballgame. Arrest Trump now. Lock him up!
We still might not be aware that the DOJ had even carried out a search and seizure warrant at Donald Trump’s home, if he hadn’t tipped off the public about it while it was happening. The DOJ generally prefers to carry out its most sensitive criminal probes in secret whenever it can.
But Trump decided that he wanted this probe to play out in public, and he keeps pulling dumb stunts such as getting rogue lower court judges to issue laughable rulings on the case. Now it appears the DOJ has simply had enough of Trump’s antics, and has decided that if Trump is going to keep making this criminal probe a public spectacle, then it’s going to correct the record.
The Washington Post didn’t find out by accident tonight that the Feds found foreign nuclear secrets at Donald Trump’s home. Far too few people would even know about such a thing to begin with – and all of them would be high ranking government officials. This bombshell about Trump having stolen nuclear secrets is almost certainly only out there today because DOJ leadership decided to put it out there.
And while this revelation should help quickly put this special master nonsense to bed (there is literally no one who could serve as an outside special master to oversee foreign nuclear secrets), you have to wonder if there’s more to it. This bombshell makes clear to everyone out there that 1) Trump is guilty as hell of the worst kind of espionage, and 2) Trump is obviously going to be arrested and indicted for it. This way, when his arrest does happen, the general public will be prepared for it.
We’ll see precisely how swiftly this plays out from here. But the DOJ knows darn well that by putting this information out there, it’ll push the media and the general public into a fevered pitch demanding Trump’s immediate arrest. The DOJ now seems to want this to be the case. And the only reason for that is if it intends to arrest him sooner rather than later. For the first time, it feels like the odds of Trump’s arrest happening before the midterms are at least as likely as the odds of it happening after the midterms.
