Mitch McConnell is in a pickle

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It’s Mitch McConnell’s worst nightmare. Moscow Mitch is known to despise Donald Trump. We know it. He knows it. Pretty much everybody knows it. So when the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago, it is not a surprise that, at first, there was no response from Mitch — merely an ominous silence.

But then some Republicans started criticizing him, demanding he come out and make a statement. So he did. McConnell called for a “thorough and immediate explanation” from Merrick Garland: “Attorney General Garland and the Department of Justice should already have provided answers to the American people,” the turtle said sternly.

Now, this statement came out Tuesday evening. And it seems as if these are perfunctory words from McConnell. Meanwhile, other GOP members are melting down something awful. With constant calls from some of the more unhinged members of the GOP to defund the FBI, Moscow Mitch appears to have lost control of his caucus.

And it’s all because of Merrick Garland. The man Mitch blocked from a seat on the Supreme Court. Oh, the irony here is delicious. We want Donald Trump to pay for his sins. But it would be nice to get some payback for what Moscow Mitch did as well.

He’s is a pretty awful person. His work in the Senate seems to be concentrated on doing as little as possible, and he is responsible for the mess we now have on the Supreme Court. So it is indeed karmic justice that the man bringing down Donald Trump is the SAME man who would be sitting on the Supreme Court right now but for McConnell.

Of course, if it wasn’t Garland bringing Trump to his knees, it would be someone else. But I do not feel guilty in the least for gloating a little. Because McConnell, right this very second, is in a quagmire. And he must feel the irony as well. Undoubtedly, Moscow Mitch wishes he’d treated the Garland nomination a wee bit differently.

But alas, it is too late. And now, as we stand by on “indictment watch,” isn’t it a bit delicious to know said indictment may come from the man McConnell himself made the mistake of blocking from the Supreme Court? Oh, the delicious irony.
