So that didn’t take long
When Donald Trump’s ex-wife Ivana Trump unexpectedly passed away two weeks ago, the day before Donald Trump and two of his kids were scheduled to testify in the New York Attorney General investigation into the Trump Organization’s financial fraud, their testimony was understandably delayed.
This set off a few absurd conspiracy theories on Twitter, all of which are best off ignored. But that nonsense aside, there was still the matter of just how much this would delay things. The answer was always going to be “not by much.”
Sure enough, the New York Times is now reporting that Donald Trump Jr. went ahead and testified last week, while Donald Trump and Ivanka Trump will testify soon. In other words, as expected, even a death in the family hasn’t delayed the New York Attorney General probe by particularly long.
There is thus far no word as to how cooperative Donald Trump Jr’s testimony was or wasn’t, and no way to predict how cooperative Donald Trump and Ivanka Trump will or won’t be. But keep in mind that New York Attorney General Letitia James has already spent a year amassing external evidence of the Trump Organization’s fraudulent business practices, which she’s publicly classified as significant and criminal in nature.
If anything, it’s on the Trumps to defend their company’s business practices during their testimony. If they fail to provide any real counter narrative to the New York AG’s evidence, she appears to believe she already has more than enough evidence to rule against the Trump Organization and take its assets.
