The real reason Mark Meadows hasn’t been indicted yet
Now that Trump henchman Steve Bannon has been convicted in his criminal trial and is bound for prison, a number of people have pointed out that Trump henchman Peter Navarro has been indicted on the same contempt charges, and is likely headed for the same fate. Others have expressed frustration that the DOJ has not (yet) indicted Mark Meadows for contempt.
Something to keep in mind: the DOJ and the Fulton County DA have each skipped over Meadows while taking action against others in Meadows’ same boat. There’s a reason for that. Either Meadows has flipped, or he’s a top level target alongside Trump.
If both sets of prosecutors see Meadows as a top level criminal target, he’ll be indicted last, or next to last before Trump. And if Meadows is cooperating, neither set of prosecutors is going to make that information public yet. There is too much of a strategic advantage to keeping that information secret. For instance, another criminal target could call up Meadows and confide in him, without knowing Meadows is cooperating.
In the meantime, Bannon is convicted, Navarro is next, Eastman and Clark have had search and seizure warrants carried out against them, and the DOJ’s ongoing takedown of Trump’s henchmen is surely bringing things closer to Donald Trump himself.
