Donald Trump just gave away that he thinks he’s headed for prison

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For quite some time now, Donald Trump has kept periodically leaking to the media that he’s considering imminently announcing a 2024 presidential campaign. In each instance it’s stated that Trump is looking to announce a campaign in the hope that it’ll keep him from being criminally indicted.

The fact that Trump keeps deciding not to announce such a campaign suggests that each time he kicks around this idea, the people around him end up explaining to him that announcing a campaign will not in any way prevent him from being indicted or prosecuted. But then Trump watches yet another public hearing, or sees the DOJ closing in on his associates like Clark and Eastman, and presumably hits the panic button once again.

Now Trump is panicking again. Multiple people around him are telling Rolling Stone that Trump has indeed decided to soon announce a 2024 campaign, and they’re admitting that he wants to do it specifically in the hope it’ll somehow magically save him from the “specter of prison time.”

Trump is even telling people around him that he expects to somehow become President again before he can be indicted by the DOJ, which is laughable on its face. If the DOJ is going to indict Trump, it’s obviously not going to take another two and a half years to do so. Nor, for that matter, is the Fulton County DA going to take another two and a half years.

Trump’s plan for magically keeping himself out of prison is so incoherent, it can be disproven by simply looking at a calendar. But such delusions of a magic rescue tend to be commonplace among those who are watching their future prospects destroyed right in front of their faces, and know they’re helpless to stop it from happening.

The real news here is this: if Trump is considering running in 2024 specifically to keep himself out of prison, then it means that Trump expects to go to prison. So much for the popular notion among Twitter pundits that the “DOJ is doing nothing.” Even Trump seems to have a more accurate handle on the situation than that. It’s just that he’s delusionally convinced himself that if he gets elected President in 2024 and becomes President in January 2025, he can somehow go back in time and prevent himself from getting indicted in 2022 or 2023. Yes, he’s that far gone.
