Secret Service now appears to be in chaos in the wake of Donald Trump revelations

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Sometimes the abrupt retirement of the head of a federal agency in the midst of a burgeoning scandal is mere coincidence. This doesn’t feel like it’s one of those times, as the Director of the U.S. Secret Service has abruptly announced his retirement after just three years on the job.

The retirement of Secret Service Director James Murray, announced on Thursday by multiple major news outlets, comes barely a week after Cassidy Hutchinson publicly testified that Donald Trump attempted to forcibly take control of his vehicle from the Secret Service in order to drive himself to the Capitol and personally lead the insurrection. Anonymous sources then told NBC News that the two Secret Service agents in the car disputed this story. But then two Secret Service sources confirmed the story to CNN this past Friday.

This sets up a combustible situation in which one or both of the two Secret Service agents who were in the car with Donald Trump may or may not be trying to cover for Trump by anonymously leaking things, even as others within the Secret Service are pushing back against this, and these agents could all end up having to publicly testify about what really happened.

In other words, this could be about to get really, really ugly. So while it could somehow be mere coincidence that the Director of the Secret Service is suddenly retiring and leaving this erupting scandal in someone else’s lap, no one will be surprised if this “retirement” turns out to have been more of an abrupt resignation in an attempt at dodging the mess.
