When Cassidy Hutchinson gave devastating and highly credible public testimony against Donald Trump and Mark Meadows last week, the fallout began immediately. One of the big questions was who if anyone would end up serving as a corroborating witness to support Hutchinson’s testimony.

Now it looks like the January 6th Committee has found its corroborating witness. Shortly after Hutchinson’s public testimony, former Trump White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews tweeted this: “Anyone downplaying Cassidy Hutchinson’s role or her access in the West Wing either doesn’t understand how the Trump WH worked or is attempting to discredit her because they’re scared of how damning this testimony is.”

Now CNN is reporting that Sarah Matthews has agreed to publicly testify at an upcoming January 6th hearing. It’s not yet entirely clear which parts of Hutchinson’s story Matthews can corroborate. But it’s not difficult to figure out that the committee’s interest in Matthews stems at least partly from her tweet vouching for Hutchinson as a witness.

The January 6th Committee announced today that it will be holding a public hearing next Tuesday, July 12th. The theme and witnesses for that hearing have yet to be announced. It’s not yet clear if Matthews’ public testimony will be slotted for the July 12th hearing, or another public hearing after that.
